Wot Se Fack, Deutschland? signed by Vince Ebert
“The Indian philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti says that the ability to observe without evaluating is the highest form of intelligence. If that’s true, we are all currently intellectual houseflies.”
When reality increasingly turns into satire, how can a satirist possibly top it? On Langeoog, tourists block ambulances because they run on climate-damaging diesel. Deutsche Bahn has to pay compensation to a male train passenger after addressing him as "Mr." when he identifies as a woman. In Krefeld, an Iranian man with 27 different identities wanted to set a cinema on fire. Presumably, the ticket price for so many people was too high for him.
»Descartes said, ‘I think, therefore I am.’ And since TikTok, we know: It also works without thinking.«
The science cabaret artist Vince Ebert looks at his country and asks himself: Wot ze Fack? Have our emotions lost their minds? At universities, biological findings are relativized, energy policy is driven by gut feeling, migration issues are ideologically narrowed. Parliamentary debates are barely distinguishable from Postillon articles. At a furious pace, we are experiencing a relapse into pre-Enlightenment times.
‘Wot ze Fack’ – a wake-up call for what defines our Western culture: rationality, self-determination, and freedom of speech. Or as Kant formulated it: Have the courage to use your own understanding. Even if you don't have one.
»He who thinks with his gut often gets things wrong.«
